French Press Espresso Recipe

First things first, heat the water using an electric kettle or a stovetop pot (you can heat a bit more than 12 oz so you have enough to heat the press. There is a slight advantage to using a kettle as it allows you to adjust the temperature you want to achieve (for a French press you want it between 195 and 200°F).

Once the water heats up, pour some of it into the press, swirl it around, and dispose of it. The point of doing this is to ensure that your brew remains hot for a much longer time.

This is the time to add coffee grounds to the press. For the best results, use medium-coarse coffee grounds and make sure that they are dark roast so you get the closest to the real espresso.
The general rule is 1 full tablespoon of coffee per every 4 oz of water. Since a 12 oz press is the smallest one (and we are brewing a full press) we are using 3 tablespoons of coffee. You can brew a single cup too just make sure to adjust the parameters accordingly.

Pour the hot water over the grounds inside the press. Once you do this, stir the two together using a wooden spoon (avoid metal utensils as you could accidentally damage the press).

Now, place the plunger in its place and push the press down. Make sure that it stays just above the water level.

Leave the coffee to steep just like that for 4 minutes.

Once the 4 minutes are up, press the plunger down as far as it goes. By doing this you will filter out all the coffee grounds from your brew.
